India's food problem is politics!

India produces enough food to feed itself in abundance and to export outside. Even the actual production is under reported. So why are we starving? I'll tell you.

One tenth of our food produced is eaten by rats. One third in all is spoiled by them, or by the FCI godowns. Why?

All advanced countries store their food in giant pest and weather proof steel bins, which are filled by automated machinery. They are so huge that it takes hundreds of truckloads to fill a bin. Once filled, they are kept completely dry. Only insects can cause harm, no rats.

But in our FCI godowns, we use gunny bags for storage! The rats can get in, and the rain can get in! Why?

Because it provides employment for the jute industry of Bengal and for labourers who carry the bags.

India starves, so that a handful can draw salaries for lazing around! Food is being unnecessarily ruined! Vajpayee, IAS, wake up!
